BGO to Applicant Intro Letter_example

Hello Lucas,

Congratulations on your interest in the United States Naval Academy.

My name is Jason Woodward and I am the Blue and Gold Officer assigned to assist you, answer questions and complete the BGO interview portion of your application to USNA.

Application for the Naval Academy is accomplished on two tracks.

1.  Naval Academy Side:  http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/

A. Admissions board.  You must complete all required information including High School Transcript, Math and English teacher evaluation, SAT/ACT official scores among other items.

B.  Medical Evaluation.  When you have completed a majority of the application requirements you will be schedule for a physical and eye test.

C.  Candidate Fitness Assessment.  Basketball throw from kneeling, shuttle run, push ups, pull ups, sit ups, mile run.
2.  Nomination:
A.  Everyone should apply to their Congressman, both Senators and the Vice President.
B.  Other sources of nomination and their requirement may be found at: http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/steps4.htm

Last year over 15,000 people applied to the Naval Academy.  Just over 1,230 were accepted and began training on 01 July 2009.  You can get a sense of how competitive you will be and have many of your questions answered by exploring the Naval Academy Catalog: http://www.usna.edu/Catalog

Averages for the SAT are 600 Math and 600 Verbal; ACT 26/26.  You can take either test as many times as you would like.  Your best score in either section of the ACT or SAT will be considered.  The United States Naval Academy produces warriors for both the Navy and Marine Corps.  Athletics and Leadership are as important as test scores and class standing.

After you have completed the majority of your application I will interview you in your home with your parents available.  Please contact me to schedule an interview.

If your goal is to become a Military Officer I advise also applying to the Military Academy (West Point) http://www.usma.edu/  and the Air Force Academy http://www.usafa.af.mil/ .  As your goal is to become a Navy or Marine Corps Officer I advise that you also apply for the Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship program.  http://www.nrotc.navy.mil/

Please contact me with any questions (email is the best option).  Good Luck!

Very respectfully,

Team Huddle 8/12/2010

KCT,

I think we're finding a rhythm with regard to our weekly team huddle. It's great for me to have everyone in one place and get a feel for team interaction/ camaraderie. I also love the weekly public accountability piece, makes us think, and if you have not read the book "slightest edge" here is a quick summary. Basically, if you do a little thing every day which constitutes moving fwd you are always gaining a slight edge over the guy/ gal that is not. i.e. If you read 10 pages out of a professional development book every day, at the end of the year you would have read 3650 pages (if the avg. book is 250 pages that is 14.5 books). Each goal you set and accomplish moves you one step closer to your bigger goals.

YOUR WEEKLY GOALS:

Shanna: Practice Scripts
Jesse: (I forgot to come back to you, so I just did)
Kristan: 1-3-5 Vision/ 172 Tasks
Brad: Back on track with Jesse
Karla: put four names in my new contacts book
Kelly: learn to print flyers
Woody: 172 Tasks/ complete REO system

Also, continue to work toward understand the documentation model from MREA and start a system for working on step 1 through this busy season. If you have questions, ask and please bring your system to next week's team huddle, it does not have to be complicate and if it takes you more than 5 minutes to put together your system for completing step 1, talk to me first.

COMPETITION!!!!
I have a $25 Miller's Express Card for the first team member to correctly answer the following: (hint I gave you the publication today) *to keep it fair, verbatim is the only acceptable answer.

1) Seller typically began updating their home ____ to ___ weeks before listing it.
2) In today's market, applying the following three strategies with your seller - _____________, ___________________, _______________ - could potentially translate into more money for your sellers at closing time.
3) Who said the following quote and on what page is it in KW Market Navigator. "Sales is not a complicated business and success in sales comes from keeping the four gears in motion fueled by your scripts and dialogues."

2 More weeks of BOLD!

Thanks,
Woody

Alaska Fireweed

I just learned a little about Alaskan Fireweed; named for its striking blooms and tall stalks.  Patches of fireweed can be seen growing throughout Alaska's more temperate regions; also found in my home town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Here in Alaska it is a means for telling how far into summer we are.   In mid to late summer fireweed begins blooming in the middle of the stalk, with each successive flower blooming just above the one before it.  As summer progresses the blooms move up the stalk.  As the last flowers are blooming at the top of the stalk, the earliest blooms seed and turn to cotton.   When the fireweed turns to cotton, Alaskans say there are about six weeks until winter begins.  The close up picture posted here was taken the first week in August.  (oh-by the way.. the silvers are in and I scheduled a fishing trip this week)

Very BOLD quote below.

Kelly and I passed around the attached book summary yesterday and thought it would be fun if I try and target a monthly short self-development read which we can pass around and discuss.  She and I initialed after we read and now it’s sitting on Shanna desk.  Nothing required, just if you want I will provide the resource.  We have a whole binder of great summaries like this on my desk labeled “book list” and they are also all provided on tape if you prefer.  Success magazine puts out some great stuff as well and I will have a copy in the office for your pleasure. :o) Anyway, Linchpin is a great read on the invaluable team member of today’s dynamic work environment – enjoy.

Only Successful People Fail

"As long as there is a plausible shot that we may succeed, as long as we are prepared to fail at the task and not see it as failing as individuals, then we will accept the challenge. People get stronger from failures; they learn from their mistakes."

I challenge you to say something positive about our team every couple days in your social environment.  It could be an experience, a great listing, a compliment or congratulations to a team member, or whatever you decide.  Touching your sphere will make a difference.  I just posted an example, way to go Jesse.

Our New Home

We can't say enough about your firm.   My husband and I decided to sell our home in Montana to move back to Alaska in March 2010.  At this time I contacted your firm on the internet and had nothing but great response.  Shanna Lantto was great to work with as she directed me and assisted us with our needs and then connected us with Jesse Tanner.  Everything from the beginning to the end was smooth.  Our needs were met in so many ways and the communication was spectacular.  We can't say enough about your firm and about Shanna or Jesse.  They both made our move to Alaska and our purchase of our new home so smooth.  From the time our offer was accepted and closing occurred it was right at 30 days.
Our new home is everything we wanted and wouldn't have been able to put the deal together without Jesse at our side.  He is very caring, compassionate and a great listener.  You are fortunate to have such a wonderful person working in your firm.  He will be recommended by us to our friends.  I know our son will be contacting him in the future when he is ready to buy  his first home.
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.
